UK Employment figures update Jan 2013
Recent figures released by the Government show that the number of people in work for the quarter to last November was up by more than half a million compared to the previous year. There are 30 million adults working in the UK accounting for an employment rate of 71% the highest since records began in 1971.
Recent poor weather conditions and the pre Olympic slump had many concerned that we would less growth than predicted. These figures should help boost confidence in the market as this is the tenth success fall in UK unemployment figures.
In Wales an extra 1,000 people found work during the last quarter bringing the unemployment figure in Wales down to 124,000. Those claiming unemployment benefits in Wales also fell.
Advertised job vacancies are also up in the last quarter to almost half a million, the highest number since 2009. Average earnings increased by 1.5% with the average wage of someone working in Britain now £472 a week.
