There’s more to Mo

31/01/12

Mo joined Yolk in December last year to launch our IT division. Apart from being a proven technical recruiter and manager he’s also an active member of his community and helps run two programs aimed at educating and improving people’s chance of successfully securing work.

iLead is aimed at 13-16 year olds from diverse backgrounds who want to learn the skills need to succeed in the business environment. The second scheme ‘Work fit for 2012’ is aimed at those looking for their first job or recently made redundant and are not used to the recruitment process.

Mo, tell us a little more about iLead.
Mo: iLead was started to offer teenagers the opportunity to learn the business skills that are not taught in most schools. The initial scheme involved working with just a handful of local teenagers but the workshops quickly started to fill up.

When I asked one of the younger delegates what her career aspirations were, her answer was simple, to be Prime Minister. To be honest it did raise a few giggles and I found it a little amusing but then I got thinking and why not?

A big problem right now is that young people are being bombarded by the media with negative messages which is affecting their aspirations. We should be encouraging fresh ideas and entrepreneurship rather than creating a generation of business leaders who are afraid of taking risks.

Brillant stuff Mo. Can you explain a little more about the Work Fit program.
Mo: Of course. There’s a lot of talented, hard working people out there struggling to find work as they lack the confidence or skillset needed to find their next job. That’s why I helped setup ‘Work Fit for 2012’ a local program with three workshops covering CV writing, applying for jobs and interview techniques. We work with those out of work, recently made redundant, recent graduates and foreign students. We teach them the skills they need to sell themselves to employers and the best methods for finding work. It’s easy to get disillusioned with the whole job search process but attending a local workshop can help motivate you and reassure you by meeting others in a similar situation.
