Data Insights Officer

The Opportunity

Yolk has partnered with a large education provider to support them in recruiting a Data Insights Officer. This is a fixed term role until November 2023 with the potential to be extended. This is a home-based role for now but will require some onsite working once COVID rules have lifted but will allow for flexibility.

This is a broader role than an Analyst and requires someone with excellent communication skills also. The Marketing Intelligence team is a high performing team that works to provide evidenced-based recommendations for our marketing activity in global Higher Education (HE) markets. The team use their knowledge and experience of quantitative and qualitative research methods to identify, gather, collate, analyse, and report on internal and external information. The reports produced inform strategic and operational decisions across the University on student recruitment, product portfolio, research, and commercial activity.

What you’ll be doing as a Data Insights Officer

  • Coordinate and undertake the setting up and maintaining of automated data processes to feed data analysis systems.

  • Identify, evaluate, and implement external services and tools to support data validation and cleansing.

  • Coordinate the manipulation and analysis of data, using suitable software (e.g., Microsoft Excel, Power BI, R, SPSS, SAS, or an equivalent software), in its various forms to identify market position and trends.

  • Coordinate the development and maintenance of a suite of Power BI dashboards for the Directorate.

  • Coordinate and undertake the sourcing and liaison with data providers on data analysis and insight projects (including work with Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS)) to inform student recruitment activity, portfolio, business engagement, and campaign activity.

  • Undertake research and produce reports to inform areas of product development and marketing, for example portfolio development, CPD (Continuing Professional Development), outreach activity, pricing, perceptions, competitive benchmarking etc.

  • Coordinate and undertake desk-based competitor, market, and industry assessments to ensure that decisions made are informed by the wider market context.

  • Work with the Market Insight Manager to develop a range of quantitative approaches to gather evidence to inform strategic and operational decision-making to underpin University goals.

  • To work closely with colleagues within the Directorate and with colleagues in other University Colleges and Departments to ensure they have the evidence they require to produce positive outcomes.

Qualification:

  • Relevant degree and/or substantial relevant work experience to include data science/analytics.

Experience:

  • Setting up and maintaining automated data processes.

  • Identifying, evaluating, and implementing external tools to support data validation and cleansing.

  • Collation and analysis of quantitative data.

  • Use of data manipulation and visualization software e.g., Excel and Power BI.

  • Accessing and using data from a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system, e.g., Microsoft Dynamics.

  • Effective report writing.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Advanced proficiency of using tools such as Microsoft Excel, R, SPSS, SAS or an equivalent software to manipulate data; specifically creating advanced formulas to carry out complex data manipulation.

  • Advanced proficiency of using data visualisation tools, such as Power BI, to present data and statistical information in a meaningful way.

  • Excellent organisational and planning skills.

  • Accuracy & attention to detail.

  • Able to work independently and/or with others in a team to achieve results.

  • Detailed knowledge of data systems and structures.

  • Produce reports that are clear and easy to interpret by different audiences.
