The opportunity

This firm is a UK Top 100 Commercial law firm that specialises in a range of legal services. There are offices in Bristol, Birmingham, Leeds and London.

Currently, there are over 500 people including 80 partners and award-winning teams within construction, commercial, corporate and more.

This firm is named within ‘The Times Best Law Firms 2022’ and have won several prestigious awards including ‘Legal Advisor of the year’ and ‘Law firm of the Year’ the Bristol Life Awards 2021.

The team

This close-knit team undertakes a range of public law, governance and advisory work primarily for NHS commissioners and providers. In addition, they also work closely with Local Authorities and social care providers. The matters your would be working on would be at the forefront of NHS public law, advising on commissioning responsibilities, powers, duties and decision-making/governance.
The team advises on high profile and complex matters.

The team currently consists of a Partner and a Senior Associate who jointly manage a Junior Solicitor and a Trainee. The range of topics includes responsible commissioner issues, S117 aftercare, NHS Continuing Healthcare and Personal Health Budgets. While the role is generally advisory, there is an opportunity to get involved with some contractual work, including Section 75 Partnership agreements and primary care contracting.

The work the team does supports local health and social care commissioners and providers in their decision-making processes.


The experience you will bring to the team:
  • 3-5 years PQE
  • Experience within Public Law Health or local government public law
  • Aptitude for drafting and legal analysis
  • Experience working with health or local authority clients (or in house) would be beneficial, but not essential
  • Interest in the health or broader public services sector
  • Ability to experience, working in a team and coordinating advice with fee earners
  • Strong technical skills and ability to understand and work through complex issues
  • Working across legal departments with others as part of a project team
