​Azure Data Architect / Lead Data Engineer - Outside IR35 - Up to £550 per day - 6 Months - End of July Start - Fully Remote

We are looking for an Azure Data Architect / Lead Data Engineer to lead the way in defining the architecture for a large-scale project for our client within the utilities sector. The project will be built in Azure, and you will regularly work with components such as Data Factory, Databricks, Synapse Analytics, Event Grid and Azure Storage. Day-to-day responsibilities will include developing and enhancing data pipelines, defining data models analysing data quality, as well as mentoring other Data Engineers.

Role Description:

The Data Architect elements of the role will cover working on the design and hands on development of a range of the following:

  1. Data Strategy, Architectures and Governance

  2. Data Management and Security

  3. Data Integrations using Azure Data Factory, Data Bricks and APIs

  4. Data Repositories in SQL Server and Analysis Services

  5. Storytelling, Reports and Data Visualisations using Microsoft Power BI

  6. Data Modelling, SQL and Data Warehouse and Reporting solutions

Key deliverables will be the High-Level Design document and Logical and Conceptual Models.

Other Helpful Information:

We are ideally looking for Lead Data Engineer who has proven Data Architecture experience. That person can be based onshore or offshore, but if offshore they will need to work UK hours.

The person should have at least 5 years of experience and possess the following skills:

  1. Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  2. Ability to lead a small team of data engineers

  3. Ability to estimate workload accurately and assign across the team.

  4. Provide knowledge transfer to project team members.

  5. Strong Data Engineering background with expert level Azure Data Factory skills.

  6. Strong experience across the Microsoft Azure Data Stack, including Azure Data Lake, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse and Azure SQL.

  7. Python and/or Pyspark experience essential.

  8. T-SQL experience.

  9. Strong experience of Azure Functions and Databricks

  10. DevOps/Git repository code promotion and change management experience.

  11. Strong experience in maintaining and optimizing the Azure Synapse (Data Warehouse) to maximize performance.

  12. The ability to manage time, prioritise tasks, self-review work and produce deliverables of a high quality under tight client deadlines in time pressured environments.

  13. Experience in working in a collaborative environment with other developers outside of Data Engineering

  14. Experience of using CI/CD techniques and processes in Azure DevOps

  15. Web App and Database Development

  16. Experience of Data Modelling utilising the Kimball methodology essential

  17. Enterprise architecture

  18. Cloud Azure experience using the Azure Data Stack

  19. Customer and stakeholder facing – ensuring standards are met, engineers are enabled and security and governance requirements are met

  20. Experienced in Azure DevOps

  21. The ability to document assets created.
