We are seeking an energetic and ambitious Engineer to join our newly established Energy team, specializing in the commissioning of electrical transmission Substation Control Systems (SCS). This position is suitable for seasoned Commissioning Engineers or Test Engineers with a keen interest in transitioning to on-site commissioning activities.

The ideal candidate should possess effective communication skills, the ability to interpret designs, a grasp of system engineering design, and a willingness to participate in and eventually lead on-site visits for installation and commissioning tasks. Over time, the successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the creation and enhancement of test documentation.

Comprehensive training on their range of Substation Control Systems will be provided by our highly experienced and knowledgeable SCS team. This role is perfect for someone with a solid engineering background and an understanding of test/commissioning techniques, who is enthusiastic about on-site work and eager to acquire and enhance skills within a dedicated and experienced team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute site acceptance testing/commissioning activities in accordance with approved test documentation.
  • Provide technical supervision of installation works on-site.
  • Ensure on-site work (installation & commissioning) adheres to agreed technical procedures, methods, and standards.
  • Manage and organize the project commissioning file.
  • Mark-up drawings and schematics as needed based on commissioning activities.
  • Contribute to the creation and preparation of commissioning/test documentation.
  • Deploy configuration files to SCADA BCU's, RTU's, IED's, etc., and Network devices (Ethernet Switches, etc.), including subsequent verification.
  • Prepare site materials/commissioning spares/test documentation before project delivery on site.

Essential Requirements:

  • Qualification or experience in Electrical Engineering.
  • Proficient in Test/Commissioning techniques.
  • Experience in fault finding on electrical/electronic systems.
  • Understanding of communication networks and various communication protocols and media types utilized (e.g., Ethernet over Fiber Optic).
  • Computer literate for documentation production (Microsoft Office).
  • Computer literate for configuration file deployment and verification.
  • Hold a current full driving license (UK or easily convertible to full UK).

Desirable Requirements:

  • Experience in writing, developing, and contributing to specifications/plans (Commissioning or Test).
  • Completed BS7671 18th Edition course (or previous iteration).
  • Completed C&G 2391 Inspection & Testing course.
  • Experience working on National Grid Substations.
  • Experience with Substation Secondary Systems.
  • Holds National Grid Commissioning Passport and/or knowledge of National Grid Procedures & Specifications.
  • Holds National Grid Competent Person status.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD (for minor changes/navigation of drawings).
