Employee Relations Policy Lead

 

What you’ll be doing as an Employee Relations Policy Lead

  •  Develop employment relations strategy and policy relating to the improvement of the of the working environment and promoting health and safety of members.

  • Develop operational plans for implementation of strategy and policy which supports the organisation’s strategic plan, and be responsible for achieving relevant objectives within the Employment Relations Department’s operational plan.

  • Negotiate with key internal and external stakeholders in developing the strategy and implementation.

  • Proactively monitor trends and developments regarding new and emerging hazards affecting the physical and psychological working environment for nurses and nursing staff wherever they work.

  • Lead negotiations with relevant national bodies (including but not limited to the Health and Safety Executive NHS Staff Council’s Health Safety and Wellbeing group, the Department of Health and Social Care and employer representatives or organisations) in relation to working environment issues.

  • Design, set up and implement national projects and campaigns on specific health and safety issues on time, within scope, budget and resources, with the involvement of members to deliver required changes within the external environment.

  • Manage a devolved budget for areas of responsibility including estimation, management and monitoring, campaign and project performance and resources to ensure value for money and timely delivery.

  • Identify research needs, develop research proposals and manage relevant projects so that strategy, policy, input into negotiations and guidance provide for staff and members reflect the latest evidence, disseminating the results of research to appropriate groups.

  • Build a specialist body of knowledge to facilitate excellence in addressing working environment issues in support of colleagues working across the wider organisation.

What the successful Employee Relations Policy Lead will bring to the team

  • Degree or equivalent

  • Occupational Health & Safety degree/further education/graduate/chartered membership

  • Understanding sectors in which nursing staff are employed

  • Experience advancing agendas to address health policy issues

  • Experience of designing and implementing lobbying and/or campaigning strategies for change

  • Experience of undertaking negotiations/strategic working with unions, employers and national bodies

  • Experience of working in a matrix management environment to lead campaigns and projects
