Yolk have been retained by this leading specialist manufacturing business in the recruitment of a General Manager to lead site operations of a flagship business.The business has a long history of manufacturing high value products of the highest quality for a global customer base that depends on their critical services, resulting in deeply embedded relationships.In recent years they’ve successful gained additional accreditations allowing them to continue to grow in new sectors.There has been consistent investment in people, processes and equipment and they’re continuing through a period of change, modernising and improving the organisation in a number of defined areas.We’re looking for a General Manager who excels in people management and communication, change management, is analytical and solutions focused, has a strong team ethic and highly driven.You’ll lead a world class operation and a committed, enthusiastic and driven team towards continued success.

 

This is what you’ll be doing

 

  • The overall leadership and management of site operations including the processing of sales opportunities, cost estimating, production planning and order execution, quality and delivery performance, people management, communication and colleague engagement, maintenance of site facilities and equipment and site HSE performance.

  • Support the analysis of business performance and the preparation of business plans, budgets and forecasts in conjunction with the Head of Finance.

  • Develop and deliver the people plan and engagement plan in conjunction with HR BP

  • Collaborate with General Managers at other locations to support on time delivery of customer orders and maximise utilisation of resources

QHSE

  • With support from QHSE Director, set clear goals for Quality, health and safety performance within the site and ensure all managers and staff have the ability, skills and resources they need to do their work safely and with their positive well-being in mind.

  • Demonstrate safety leadership during team meetings through standing agenda Safety Moments, learning from incidents and safety data and challenging the team to recommend safety and well-being improvements.

  • Ensure the site continually meets the standards established within ISO:9001, and OHSAS:18001(ISO:45001)

 

Site Operations

 

  • Lead, support and manage the site team in providing on-time delivery of customer orders to the required quality standards and within estimated cost levels.

  • Establish production KPIs for the site, set progressive goals and monitor performance in regular review meetings.

  • Analyse performance trends and set improvement targets.

  • Brief staff at site to provide updates on the divisional operational performance, progress with key initiatives and general business news.

  • Develop and manage production capacity and capability to meet sales targets, strategic goals and optimising site operations and efficiencies.

  • Prepare and maintain the twelve month rolling production forecast (load and capacity plans) taking into account customer lead times in the sales pipeline and capacity commitments to business development projects and staff training.

  • Implement a Planned Maintenance (PM) programme for key plant and machining centres across the site to improve plant availability and performance.

  • Champion continuous improvements in manufacturing methods and processes to deliver customer orders on time, at improved cost and to high quality standards.

 

Culture

 

  • Positively engage all members of staff at the site, generating a strong collaborative high performing team spirit ensuring a clear understanding of objectives, roles and responsibilities.

  • Provide regular business updates, constructive feedback and recognition of individual and team performance.

  • Act promptly to rectify performance improvement areas.

  • Review performance and agree personal objectives for direct reports in line with the PDR process

 

Financial / Budgetary & Reporting

 

  • Responsibility for managing departmental and site costs within agreed budgets and authority levels.

  • Prepare and submit operational performance reports as part of the divisional monthly and quarterly reporting cycles, commenting on variations to planned performance, risks, issues and updates on key initiatives.

  • Evaluate and propose capital expenditure for new equipment and major changes to site operations.

  •  

Key Account Management

 

  • Contribute insight to the development of new and existing customer growth strategies and plans.

  • Develop and deliver Key Account Management Plans in conjunction with the Divisional Sales Director and sales team.

 

The experience you’ll bring to the team

 

  • Significant experience in a precision engineering or related service business, serving high integrity supply chains in sectors such as defence, nuclear, aerospace, transportation, oil & gas

  • Knowledge and experience of advanced manufacturing

  • Strong people management and communication skills, strong team ethic, analytical and solutions focused.
