Head of Infrastructure

The Opportunity

This is a newly created position to support the Associate Director with the management and leadership of a small infrastructure team and a small web operations team and is part of a large Digital Information & Technology directorate. Whilst the office is based in central Manchester, you will only need to be there once a week and flexible working is supported. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is an existing Infrastructure Manager looking for their next step in their career. This is a growing team which is at the early stages of their digital transformation so there are lots of opportunities for progression and development.

What the Head of Infrastructure will be responsible for

This is a bit of a hybrid role with a wide remit from devising code and dealing with operational matters to architectural design of systems. A key element of this role will be the effective management of the Infrastructure and IaaS teams.

  • Personal Development Plans, appraisals, and overall performance of team staff to ensure that current and future requirements of the organisation are met.

  • Encourage and support the development and training of other staff and continually seek and act on feedback to evaluate and improve their own and their team’s performance.

  • Developing processes and procedures and documenting, and implementing to ensure the delivery of a robust service including business continuity planning for the IT Infrastructure and IaaS.

  • Develop SLA and KPI’S and make sure they are adopted within the teams and are being regularly reviewed and adhered to

  • Development, management, and administration of a range of complex specialist cyber security software and services to comply with Government Cyber Essentials Plus framework.

  • Delivery of new IT projects. This will include the specification and procurement of new IT solutions, assessment of bids, project planning the deployment and final delivery of the solution

  • Deputise for the Associate Director of Infrastructure and IT Operations as required

What the Head of Infrastructure will bring to the team

  • Demonstrable leadership skills

  • Knowledge of supporting an Office 365, WAN connectivity and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure)

  • Extensive knowledge of IT Infrastructure and IaaS, industry standards and processes for effective delivery of IT operations

  • Effective communication skills at all levels
