Inhouse Group Solicitor – Cardiff Central 12 Months FTC

The job:

We are looking for a qualified lawyer from private practice or in-house who is able to provide legal advice in an accessible and pragmatic way to a broad range of stakeholders. The role is a 12 month fixed term contract, to cover a maternity leave.Strong commercial contract and negotiating skills are essential. Experience of working in a regulated environment (such as financial services) would be advantageous, along with previous data protection or outsourcing experience.The successful candidate will have an interest in regulatory issues and will keep on top of legal developments.

 

What you will do:

 

Provide both project and day-to-day legal advice to a variety of stakeholders across the group including the Data, Commercial, Procurement and Product teams.

Lead on contract negotiations, working closely with the Procurement team to negotiate contractual terms with a range of suppliers (including IT, Marketing, Recruitment, External Legal) advising on associated legal risk and ensuring compliance with regulation (such as the outsourcing/operational resilience requirements).

Review and revise product documentation including terms and conditions, supporting documents and marketing material.

Work closely with the Commercial team, including assisting with LIBOR transition work and commercial security reviews.

Assist in the management of complaints and claims, working closely with colleagues in the Customer Services team.

Provide supervision and support to other team members, including supervision of more junior colleagues, and support where colleagues require a second opinion.

Proactively partner with assigned areas of the business to provide legal support, and prepare a regular legal update to be shared with the business on a monthly basis.

Input into the Legal team strategy and contribute to the training, learning and development of both the Legal team, and colleagues across the group

 

What we are looking for:

The successful candidate will be a practising solicitor/barrister NQ or more post qualification experience, sound knowledge of contract law and supporting regulations, and experience in a financial services organisation, other commercial organisation or in private practice (advising on financial services law or general commercial law).

The role holder will take ownership of their own workload, and will need the ability to work independently with limited supervision and have excellent written and oral communication skills. They will be able to translate technical legal concepts into understandable advice, which is both technically sound and shows an understanding of the relevant commercial context.

The successful candidate will be invested in their own and the team’s development, and will be able to work closely both with the Legal team, and colleagues across the wider business.
