Machine Shop Supervisor

A new opportunity has been created for a Production Supervisor with a background in machining, Milling/Turning, to join a well-established and growing Engineering business in an exciting new role.

This is what you’ll be doing

  • Drive the production plan through the effective leadership, management and support of manufacturing departments.

  • Work collaboratively with Production Team Leaders and Scheduling to ensure that the Production Plan is effectively resourced and adhered to, raising concerns where jobs overrun and identifying corrective actions when required.

  • Encourage collaboration with other departments to improve planning and process efficiencies

  • Ensure all tooling and equipment is available to ensure jobs can be started in line with plan, and minimise lost time

  • Monitor the creation of machine programs and ensure correctly proved and stored for repeat use.

  • Liaise with the Quality Manager to investigate non conformity in the department and assist in root cause analysis and the implementation of corrective and preventive actions.

  • Contribute ideas to continuous improvement programs

  • Participate in contract review and new product quoting process, as appropriate

  • Implement and maintain 5S throughout the shop floor department

  • Provide clear Work Instructions to produce quality products in a safe and controlled manner.

  • Supervise operators to maximise efficiency, quality and on time delivery requirements.

  • Act as a focal point to team members in their department, ensuring personnel administration and wellbeing needs are addressed (e.g Holidays, H&S, PPE Etc.)

  • Support team members in the reading and interpretation of engineering drawings and technical requirements

  • Administer the time and attendance management system

  • Co-ordinate and train staff, to fulfil operational requirements, including appraisal of personal performance and regular feedback and communication with team members.

  • Conduct people related meetings with the support of HR, covering return to works, probations, disciplinaries etc

  • Support with ad-hoc recruitment projects

  • Demonstrate a personal commitment to Quality, Health, Safety and the Environment

  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement, and lead by example to ensure company goals are achieved and exceeded.

The experience you’ll bring to the team

  • Experience machining, milling/turning is advantageous though this isn’t a hands on machining role

  • A high level of knowledge of manufacturing process and engineering techniques

  • Lean manufacturing experience
