Media Officer, Brighton, £25,000-£30,000 + Excellent Benefits (30% Pension)
My client, a commercial public sector organisation based in central Brighton is looking to recruit a Media Officer into their Press Office team. This is an exciting opportunity where you will take responsibility for promoting the organisations work to a diverse audience at a time of unprecedented change.

This is what you’ll be doing

  • Be confident in dealing with journalists, stakeholders and other government bodies, to proactively manage media enquiries, rebut inaccuracies and defend our reputation as required using agreed lines to take
  • Produce and sell in high-quality press releases, articles and op-eds to core pensions trade press, regional and national print and broadcast media and business sector publications
  • Work closely with colleagues across the Communications department to maximise the creative use of all available media channels including social media, video and podcasts
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key press contacts
  • Be creative in generating media and public relations opportunities to raise awareness of the regulator’s work to protect savers by promoting high standards across the pensions industry and take action where needed
  • Support the Media Relations Manager & Communications colleagues
  • Advise colleagues, including the Executive Committee and other senior management on media-handling strategies and emerging media risks

The experience you’ll bring to the team

  • Excellent spoken and written communication and organisational skills
  • Proven experience in media relations and/or public relations with a strong news sense and judgement
  • Ability to talk with confidence to the media at all levels (national, regional, trade) and rebut inaccuracies
  • Ability to quickly absorb and understand information on complex policy or legal issues and to translate this material into succinct, accurate and engaging written content
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines, often having to prioritise to meet unexpected or changing workload
  • Ability to advise, influence and persuade others, often at senior level
  • A self-starter – able to generate creative ideas and opportunities to highlight the regulator’s messages
