SAFETY ENGINEER - INSIDE IR35 - £60 PER HOUR - STEVENAGE, HYBRID WORKING - SC CLEARED (OR WILLING TO UNDERGO) - 12 MONTHS - SINGLE STAGE INTERVIEW

Yolk Recruitment are recruiting for a Safety Engineer to join our client's team on an initial 12 month contract from Stevenage.

Overview of Team:

An opportunity has arisen for an engineer to exploit their safety engineering skills to influence the safety aspects of our technically complex products. While exploring the boundaries of best practice, this will involve optimising the effort devoted to safety assurance, with the goal of balancing safety against the inherently lethal attributes required of complex weapon systems.

Responsibilities:

This specific role is to produce the safety evidence for a complex weapon system, which involves system level knowledge including electrical, mechanical and programmable elements. The role involves working with the equipment teams providing detailed evidence and constructing the the overall weapon system safety case. The successful candidate will be required to liaise with key stakeholders (typically, but not exclusively, the sub-system safety teams and the design teams delivering the various system elements) to define and understand the safety boundary and associated safety requirements and to produce or, as appropriate, manage the delivery of, the evidence that these requirements have been achieved. The system is relatively mature, so the emphasis will be on delivery of evidence and showing that the reqiurements have been achieved and hazards mitigated.

In support of this, experience of the following is expected:

  • Hazard analysis exercises (such as FHA);
  • Hazard management and risk analysis, including fault tree and event tree analyses;
  • Construction of safety arguments (in GSN) and understanding their contribution to the case being made;
  • Provision of support to equipment-level and project-level Safety Panels and Committees;
  • Assisting in the management and integration of these activities with system engineering and design programs to ensure the timely delivery of material supporting the safety case/claim;
  • Liaising with other functions in order to derive safety requirements and plan qualification.
  • Working with systems teams in order to demonstrate satisfaction of safety requirements.
  • Understanding of DEF-STAN 00-056, including the ability to write Safety Management Plans that meet its requirements.

Skillset/experience required:

Demonstrable knowledge of, and experience in, the application of UK and International system engineering processes, particularly in safety-related systems and safety assessment processes.

  • Thorough understanding and experience of how the hazard analysis process integrates with the system engineering process to influence the design.
  • Ability to deliver supporting information (Safety Case Reports, Hazard Analysis, Functional Failure Analysis, FTA, etc).
  • Detailed electronic engineering experience is highly desirable. Experience of other engineering disciplines (design, programmable element, manufacture, or hands on usage) is also desirable.
  • Excellent verbal, written communications analytical and problem solving skills is essential.
  • Track record as an effective team player with strong interpersonal and influencing skills and the ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary / multi-national team is required.
  • Stakeholder management evidence.
  • Customer/supplier interfacing skills.
  • Planning and organisation skills.
