Data Engineer - Hybrid Cardiff - £38,000-£43,000

The Opportunity

Yolk Recruitment Public Sector & Not-for-Profit team has partnered with a large public sector organisation to recruit a Data Engineer to join their team. They are an extraordinary organisation based in Cardiff with a diverse workforce and inclusive culture.

This is an excellent opportunity for a passionate and experienced Data Engineer to join a highly reputable organisation and play a key role in developing their new cloud-based data platform.

What the Data Engineer will be doing

In this role, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining the company's new technical data engineering platform, as well as supporting the existing SQL Servers that are primarily used to feed data into analytics products for data-driven decision making.

  • Mentoring and supporting Data Engineers within the team
  • Designing and implementing data engineering projects on both on-premise and cloud-based data stacks
  • Working closely with technical colleagues in other teams to ensure relevant information technology components are in place
  • Remaining up to date with new data engineering approaches and suggesting how they can be implemented for business benefit

What the successful Data Engineer will bring to the team

  • Substantial experience in data pipeline design and management
  • Good understanding of database administration and typical ingestion patterns (ETL, ELT)
  • Knowledge of data modelling approaches (e.g., Kimball) and data transformation techniques
  • Strong Python and SQL programming skills
  • Experience using the Microsoft data stack, particularly Azure Data Lake, Azure Synapse, and Azure Data Factory
