Senior Research Software Engineer - up to £850 per day inside ir35 - 12 months (Extension likely) - Gloucestershire (predominantly onsite) - DV cleared project - Sector: Defence/ Technology

Yolk Recruitment are on the lookout for a Senior Research Software Engineer to work with a cutting-edge institution on the forefront of technology and security that works for the betterment of the country and wider global community.

This is an exciting opportunity to work on larger, complex tasks, mentoring junior members, closely integrating with multiple research teams to build knowledge of research, collaborating with transition partners.


The research software engineering team will comprise a combination of S&T Research staff, industry, and placements from across the client's wider business.

As a minimum a Research Software Engineering Group of 5 is proposed, which would allow for the 4 projects that have a current high demand for team effort to be satisfied, alongside the coordination and development of the group. This could expand to 8 if the resource is available.

We utilise modern DevOps practices and tools and would expect the engineer to be advocates of such tools.

Core Skills:

  • Must be currently DV security cleared.
  • SFIA level 4 in Software Design or Programming/Software Development
  • Experienced in either Python, C/C++, Java, TypeScript, or Rust
  • Experience working within a cloud native environment.
  • A desire to learn new technologies.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experienced in Testing.
  • Experience using AWS and Kubernetes
